DESCRIPTION:Join us for a presentation of Chinese poetry and music by local artists Walter and Amy West! We are celebrating Blanchardville Public Library’s successful East Asia Grant, which has allowed us to bring Asian voices into the library, through new books and presenters.\nAn invitation to this program by Walter West:\n“Abode of the Scholar of Rocks Mountains Rivers and Streams in Slanted Rain”\nDelicate, brief, fragile as a Plum Blossom [Mêi-huā] falling, a flake among petaled snow, the ephemeral Dream of Spring slumbering; Dragon undulating, churning, Rider-of-Waves, festively racing on rivers; Momentary: a moment in momentum moving unsuspended within the Space of a Single Breath is the Brevity of this fleeting Life: a wavelet rippling, rapidly passing flowing on Tide of Time Flowering.\nA Celebration of Transience awaits Youthful Children and their Elders who have preserved the Wonder and Curiosity of a Child [Elderberries and Younger Berries] to which You are Cordially Invited at the Blanchardville Public Library on Monday, August 3, 2026 at 1 pm to 2pm under the auspices of Director Sarah Kyrie who may be contacted at 608-523-2055.\nThis short presentation of evanescent event is in dedication and recognition of this Library being an award recipient for the:“East Asia in the Upper Midwest Library Program competition with the goal of enriching patrons’ understanding of East Asia” Sponsored by the “Center for East Asian Studies, Institute for Regional and International Studies, University of Wisconsin-Madison, 2026.”\nSignificantly, Blanchardville is the sole Library in the Southwest Wisconsin Regional District Designation to have achieved this distinction. Sarah Kyrie was the author-applicant grant proposal-writer whose efforts made this possible.\n“’New’Asian histories, memoirs, manga, cookbooks and ‘kids’ books”Now Reside sheltered, ‘though not secluded, awaiting a speaking voice.\nIn recognition of this accomplishment, Dr. Amy West of Darlington, WI will offer a presentation of Chinese Culture through Word, Music, Demonstration and Audience participation as an interactive immersive experience in the Communication of Cultural Commonalities accented garnished with aspects of Uniqueness.Whirling Eddies of Currents, Froth of Foam floating stirred by Emotion, Winds of Seasons swirl Revolving, Meandering, streams twisting carrying Course of Life, Circles within Cycles contorting convoluted.\nDragon of the Sea arises pursuing Heavenly Pearl ascending, far-flung Flaming meteor of wisdom and spiritual energy:Dr. Amy West began her professional career teaching New College English to Chinese students in the Peoples’ Republic of China [P.Ro of China]. Born the year of the Dragon, she rode the waves to the shores of America teaching elementary students Chinese Language and Culture along the Upper Mississippi River Valley at Prairie du Chien Schools. Voyager of its tributary, the Platte River, at Platteville, she initially engaged in encouraging Chinese Language and Culture as an Assistant to the Confucius institute at UW-Platteville, administered by Hanban, Chinese Language Office, under the Ministry of Education, P.R. of C., charged with promoting world-wide interest and understanding of Chinese Culture; then, to teaching Chinese Language and Culture classes as an adjunct professor in the Humanities Department, World Languages Program at UW-Platteville.\nA Return to Beginning, Circulating Recycled.Sons of Sons, Daughters of Daughters of Farmers,Feet of Soil celestial Aspirations:Born to a peasant rice-farming family in Southeastern China she became the seed of a shoot sprouted breeze-swept by prevailing circumstance beyond equatorial doldrums to a section of Lafayette County’s rural Agricultural Region now residing deeply-rooted in Tama Soil along the Pecatonica River:Beginning of Beginnings, ‘Preying MantisTakes First Steps’, Circle surroundingReturn, Coordinate of Beginnings ReverberatingRotating:What Wind Has Brought You Here?\nDr. West will be performing with W.
